With family origins in the Torres Straits, Jessie Lloyd and Jessica Hitchcock have teamed up to perform a unique collection of Islander songs from northern Queensland. Singing the songs sung by their grandparents, they bring warmth with melodies and harmonies while strumming the ukulele.
Many of the songs, like those who performed them, moved across Australia all the while maintaining their tropical roots. These songs form the Torres Strait Islander chapter of Jessie Lloyd’s Mission Songs Project; an initiative to research and revive the Indigenous folk songs of the early 20th century.
